Lesson 2 - Art Of Contemplation
When was the last time you spent a morning reflecting on a verse of the Quran, or tried to wrap your mind on a verse, or figure out the connection? The main goal of this course is to change your reading of the Quran from a passive reading to an engaged reading. Listen, recite, and reflect. Sh. Ammar discusses the art of contemplating the Quran in this lesson.
Lesson 3 - First Principle: Personalize the Message
It is important that we connect the Quran to our life. How do we do that? What are some ways that we can connect with the Quran and contemplate it in a way that benefits us? Sh. Waleed shares some ways that we can contemplate and read the Quran so that it becomes a personalized experience and benefit for us.
Lesson 4 - Second Principle: Notice the Names of Allah
Allah has 99 names and many attributes. What is the reasoning behind His names being used in certain verses? Nothing in the Quran is random. Sh. Ammar AlShukry takes us through a quick exercise and gives examples so that we may understand why certain names are used in some verses, and how it all connects.
Lesson 5 - Third Principle: Word Choice & Placement
No word in the Quran is there by accident. Allah placed each and every word where it is in the Quran on purpose, so that we may reflect and contemplate on the meaning and take lessons from His words. Sh. Waleed discusses the third principle of contemplating the Quran, which is looking at the word choice and placement in each verse.
Lesson 6 - Word Choice and Placement Part II
Sh. Waleed continues his discussion on word choice in the Quran in this lesson. Looking at the choice of words used is one of the most amazing things in the Quran. The more you read into it, the more you connect. The more you train yourself to see the connections, the more you will enjoy reading the Quran.
Lesson 7 - Fourth Principle: Be curious
Every letter of the Quran is not just deliberate, but divinely designed. It is important to look at every detail of the book of Allah, because every word has been designed by a Lord who is perfect. Sh. Ammar discusses paying attention to detail and analyzing a text.
Lesson 8 - Fifth Principle: Conditional Verses
“If you do this, then this will happen.” There are many verses in the Quran that are “conditional” verses. This means verses that promise one thing, if something else is achieved. If Allah promises reward to those who are doing good, are we doing that goodness? Will we achieve the promised reward? Sh. Ammar discusses some examples of conditional verses and how we can read into them.
Lesson 9 - Sixth Principle: Parables in the Quran
There are many parables in the Quran. A parable is a simple story that illustrates a lesson or moral. What are some parables in the Quran? Sh. Waleed discusses certain parables in Quran, such as the one of the spider and its web, and how we can apply the lessons from those parables in our lives.
Lesson 10 - Seventh Principle: The Opening of Chapters
In this lesson, Sh. Ammar discusses in detail, the beginning and openings of surahs. Plus, special guest Belal Khan comes in to discuss to give his expertise on how stories work in film and literature, and how we can relate common story tropes to reading and contemplating the Quran.
