Chain of Command (Sciences of Ḥadīth)
- Course Outline
"Imagine a day. A day when all Hadith had been forgotten.
No recollection of tears shed in prayer, nor swollen feet.
No memory of 'Aishah, nor Anas nor Abu Hurayrah.
No knowledge of the actions of pilgrimage or prayer.
No mention of the Ummah that learned at the Prophet's feet. Not its questions, not his answers, nor their toil. Blueprints for the future...forgotten and buried in the past. Thank Allah. For that dark day never came. True, there have been days of neglect and days of confusion. But the hadeeth never vanished. For the Hadeeth had its keepers. They were scholars who kept alive the authentic traditions of the Prophet, Sal Allaahu 'alayhi Wa Sallam. They were the Muhaddeeths, and Mustalah was their art. "
If you'd like to cultivate your emotional connection to Allah's Messenger, learn and appreciate the massive time our 'ulama (scholars) spent preserving knowledge and spend two weekends with hundreds of students of knowledge, then this might be the most important letter you'll ever read.
Here's why :
If all hadith had been given up, what would remain but a wide and empty chasm, fourteen centuries wide, between us and the Prophet? The Qur'aan would be understood according to our whims and desires. And the Prophet, sal Allaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, would be seen as a mere myth surrounded by legends.
"I have indeed been given the Qur'an and something similar to it besides it. Yet, the time will come when a man leaning on his couch will say, "Follow the Qur'an only; what you find in it as halal, take it as halal, and what you find in it as haram, take it as haram." But what the Messenger of Allah has forbidden is like what Allah has forbidden. - Hadith from the collections of Abu Dawud and Darimi. Narrated by AlMiqdam bin Ma'di Karib
Once the Messenger sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam left this world, who would the Muslims learn from? It was from the companions:
"We would not be pleased until we rode to Madinah to hear it from their own mouths." - Abu 'Aliyah-
Then more companions passed away, the ummah began to spread out and the distance between the narrations and the Prophet, sal allahu alayhi wa sallam, grew further. So the memory and calibre of each and every subsequent narrator would be checked by the scholars,
"They would not ask about the isnad (chain of hadith narrators). But when the turmoil happened, they said: Name us your men."
Then during more difficult times, came the problem of hadith forgery.
"We used to listen to hadith and present them to fellow traditionists, just as we present forged coins to money changers: whatever they recognise of them, we accept, and whatever they reject of them, we also reject." - Al Awzai
Now, I know you're probably skeptical. That's normal and healthy. Let me give you three good reasons we can back up what we claim:
Three Reasons To Believe What I Say
Reason one: Shaykh AbdulBary Yahya is a graduate from the Islamic University of Madinah - College of Shariah. Presently he is the Imam of Masjid Jaamiul Muslimeen in Seattle, WA.
Reason two: Ustaadh Yasir Qadhi has authored a number of books, including Riya'a: The Hidden Shirk, Du'aa: The Weapon of the Believer, An Introduction to the Sciences of the Qur'an and many more.
Reason three: Ustaadh AbdulBary is a prolific narrator. He is able to take any topic and draw immense interest from the audience. Ustaadh AbdulBary has a contagious enthusiasm that leaves you with a smile upon your face.”
Here is a summary of the benefits you receive inshaAllah
- You will place a greater value on the next hadith you read
- You will treasure your book collection more
- You will become more familiar with some of the master narrators of the Sahaba
- You will learn more about the master traditionists
- You will learn that the preservation of hadith is a divine promise that truly has been fulfilled
- You will learn that narrating hadith is not like broken telephone
- You will look at historical sources in a new way.
- You will earn the challenges faced by the traditionists and their determination.
Now, you're probably wondering how and why we can do all those things.
Let me explain.
"O you who believe! Obey Allah and His Messenger and do not turn away from him when you hear (his Message)" - The Qur'an
To obey the Messenger we have to hear his message. How would you know if those words are really from him?
Join us along the Chain of Command and see how Allah Ta'ala caused the ummah to produce outstanding individuals with incredible memories and analytical expertise. They journeyed tirelessly to distinguish Rasulullah's true words from weak or fabricated statements. They learned the authentic sunnah, lived it and transmitted it so we could have it today. And the Muslim Ummah would be proud of their unique legacy of Mustalah: unparalleled in the field of historical source criticism.
Now imagine. Imagine the delight of getting as close as possible to Rasulullah's words and deeds. Thanks to the Muhaddith it happens whenever you open up a book of hadith. Perhaps you will hear comforting advice in Fatima's house, moments of courage in the battleground of Uhud or kind words in the street where little Anas forgot his errand. Thanks to the toil of the keepers of hadith we can revisit the sound traditions and revive them in our very own 21st century lives. Isn't it time we followed the Chain of Command?
Don't take my word for it.
Listen to what our students have to say.
"...Ustaadh Abdulbary yahya is AWESOMETACULAR... he's so cool i had to make up a new word for him. he gave what i call the sniffles khutbah/jumuah prayer. i'll never forget that prayer... so many people with runny noses... alhumdullilah we all cried." - SdoubleAD, Carbondale, IL
"...Completely unique. Sheikh AbdulBary is absolutely awesome. He clicked with all the students in NO TIME. At the end of the first weekend, we all got that feeling again...We're like: When is the next weekend coming? But what we're worried about even more is the feeling that we know will come after the second weekend. The feeling that we won't see sh. AbdulBary for another year or more before he teaches another AlMaghrib class. Thaaat's what sad, but in shaa Allah we'll try to ask him to come down for various activities in shaa Allah. That's makes us feel better" - Yasser Ibn Amr Ibn Al'ass, Houston, TX
"Wow! Masha'Allah. This passed weekend has definitely been a wakeup call. I never knew how much I could learn just about water. SubhanAllah. I'm even more excited about what has yet been taught...what is still to come. Its amazing to see how much I can benefit and open my eyes up to and teach others from just these ephemeral moments passing before our eyes. Masha'Allah. Sheikh Abdulbary Yahya has made an impact on all of our lives. His stories allow us to envision what life is like outside the realms of books. SubhanAllah. Without his stories the class would not be the same. Alhamdullilah, Allah has given me the opportunity to take such an important class that not only jump starts my days, but the rest of my life. May Allah give us all the opportunity to benefit from upcoming classes insha'Allah. Ameen." - Melody, Howell, NJ
Warning: Do NOT commit your time to studying a specific seminar unless it meets the following 4 criteria
There is a lot of confusion surrounding our field. I want to give you 4 criteria or elements you absolutely, positively must have in any solution you obtain:
1: You are in an atmosphere of students encouraging you to take an exam based on what you've learned...
... let's face it, we forget 70% of what he hear, so if we are not putting in the effort to study with people who are seriously cool, how many times are we going to have to spin our wheels trying to 'remember' what you learned?
2: Piece by miniscule piece over a long period of time ...
... there is nothing more satisfying then having the opportunity to immerse oneself in a language (like Arabic) or Hadeeth. Don't settle for anything less.
3: Study Hadith in a class that gives you the opportunity to interact with what you learn ...
... with AlMaghrib you'll have study halaqah parties, an online forum to share your personal reflections, an exam to test what you think you've understood, mini in-class student buddies, and so much more.
4: Your teacher has taken the time to prepare the BEST class possible ...
... when a teacher comes unprepared, it not only wastes his time, but it wastes yours. Most of the class is filled with fluff if the instructor comes unprepared.
You get at least 10 times your money's worth!
How much would your parents pay if they sent you off to Islamic school? $300 per month? No ... $550 per month! Per child!
You would probably get 2 - 3 hours of Islamic studies instruction per week. It would take about 3 MONTHS to cover just the 'hours' of an AlMaghrib two weekend seminar.
"This class has helped me re-organize my life and prioritize. This class was more than what I bargained for, I feel like I ripped AlMaghrib off for it. The price should be higher considering what you learn in this class." - Hala, Columbus, OH
Now ... your parents are probably not sending you to Islamic school anymore. Instead, they may have allocated money for your car, or College tuition, or laptop ... or something related to your career.
But what about your study of Islam? Has any money been allocated to that?
Is it possible to imagine a Muslim community where studying Islam stops at grade 8 like their local Islamic school? Who would want to live in a city where everyone stopped studying Islam at grade 8?
You DEMAND a quality Islamic higher-studies program!
You have FOUND it.
Now, how much is it worth to you?
