Congratulations to Qabeelat Ruhma! Liwaa 2015 Champions!

Hey who needs the Superbowl anyway?

Ma sha Allah, congratulations to the amazing team in Seattle who have smashed all expectations and really been an incredible story in the AlMaghrib world. We are all so super proud of Qabeelat Ruhma for winning the Liwaa 2015 and we can only pray that they continue to go from strength to strength, bringing light and khayr to many more people in sha Allah!

Qabeelat Ruhma was founded in February 2005, making it one of AlMaghrib Institute’s earliest cities. But Seattle wasn’t ready, the Qabeelat struggled, and almost exactly a year later, we had to shut down Qabeelat Ruhma.

6 years later, we were told that Seattle was ready, more than ready.. and that Qabeelat Ruhma would rise again. And they did. BIG time!

In the past year, Qabeelat Ruhma and Seattle have rocked the AlMaghrib world. Hosting sold out classes, launching excellent initiatives and bringing the excitement of IlmFest to its city. With an average student grade of 73% and an astounding feat: averaging 50% exam attendance, the best in the AlMaghrib world.

Watch Shaykh Yasir Qadhi and Shaykh AbdulBary Yahya announce the occasion live in an awesome way…

And the Liwaa 2015 Runners Up are…

2nd Runners Up: Qabeelat TAYYBAH, New York City!

This year Qabeelat Tayybah hosted 5 seminars averaging 230 students in each which is an amazing feat that the team there should be proud of! Not only that but they had an average 44% exam attendance with an average score of 75% making them one of our best academically performing Qabeelahs. This is totally in line with their renowned academics team, and yes even instructors use their students notes prepared by the Qabeelah ma sha Allah!

Mubarak, Qabeelat Tayybah on an excellent year!

Which then leads to…

1st Runners Up: Qabeelat Madinatayn, Minneapolis, MN!

Qabeelat Madinatayn splashed onto the AlMaghrib world only very recently, and even though they are much smaller than many of our major cities they quickly put everyone on notice that they mean business winning the Liwaa in their first year!

This year they were a close second, with a class average of 200 students, an exam turnout of 46.8% and the HIGHEST exam average in the AlMaghrib world at 79.50% (!), Minneapolis is indeed the city of students of knowledge. But not just that, they are also the city of action because their IMPACT work has been making headlines all over the world!

Mubarak to Qabeelat Madinatayn on an outstanding year!

So, who are the winners?!

Voting for the Liwaa Cup 2015 has started…

So first of all, you’re like “What is the Liwaa?”

Well you should all know this by now! The Liwaa is given yearly to the single most outstanding Qabeelah in the AlMaghrib universe. That’s basically the best chapter of volunteers that bring you awesome AlMaghrib experiences every few months in your city.

The Liwaa represents excellence in three key categories:

1) Attendance
2) Exam attendance
3) Exam scores

Previous winners of the Liwaa have been: Houston, DC, Toronto (twice), Minneapolis, New Jersey, London, New York and Malaysia (twice).

Just so that you don’t think this is a big city affair, you should know that as long as any Qabeelah averages over 150 students in their seminars over a year, they are in the running for the Liwaa. After that it is all about EXAMS. What is the percentage of students over the course of the year that take the class and exams and what their average grades were.

Will Malaysia win for the third straight year?
Will one of the old winners retake the Liwa?
Will a new city write its name amongst the elite?

This is going to be a close one…

Congrats to The Dean’s List of 2014!

Each year, we choose our best and brightest students – those that have taken the requisite number of courses and achieved the highest percentile grades, and they get placed on what is called “The Dean’s List”.

On behalf of AlMaghrib Institute, for Academic Year 2014, after much checking and assessment, I would like to (finally at last!) congratulate every one of those who made it to the Dean’s List as illustrated below!

Mabruk on being exemplary students of our Institutes! May you continue to achieve greater and higher goals throughout your life, and may you continue to strive in implementing this knowledge in your actions and worship as well.

DECEIVED – Don’t miss it!

It would be ridiculous – in fact, very dangerous – to ignore the threat to our Muslim and non-Muslim communities from a narrative which uses Islam in a most perverse and deviant way.

It is the plague of Extremism. And Muslims themselves need to stand up and be counted in this battle against that which contradicts the very basic principles of our religion.

Join Sh Waleed Basyouni and Sh Navaid Aziz on Sunday 5th April 2015 for this unique event which aims to shed light on the truth behind the rhetoric, and ensure that we don’t remain deceived any longer.

Please register HERE asap to avoid disappointment.

Our condolences to the families of Deah, Yusor and Razan

Assalāmu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullah

It is with a heavy heart that we write this message to you, and most of you no doubt will have heard of the shocking murder of our brother and sisters in Chapel Hill, North Carolina: Deah Barakat, Yusor Abu-Salha and Razan Abu-Salha.

Innā lillāh, wa innā ilayhi rāji‘ūn. We ask Allah jalla wa ‘alā to forgive their sins, elevate their rank and grant their families the best of patience at such a stressful and challenging time.

On behalf of AlMaghrib Institute, our instructors, staff and all you students as well no doubt, we send our sincerest condolences and prayers to the families and their local community.

These beautiful souls articulated a wonderful expression of their Deen, one of service to their community, and one of charity to their wider family abroad in particular the Syrian Refugees. They were Believers in the pursuit of knowledge, and were fellow students at AlMaghrib Institute like yourselves. It is a truly loss for all the Muslims when such people leave us, may Allah reward them without limit for their efforts.

We know that you will not let them down at their time of need, which is the Funeral Prayer organized for tomorrow. Thus, we strongly encourage all of our students in Raleigh and Charlotte to attend their Janāzah prayer tomorrow (Thursday 12th February) which will be held after Dhuhr Prayers at 1:35pm at the Islamic Association of Raleigh (IAR).

For those who can’t make it, please remember them and their families in your prayers.

Jazākumullāhu khayran.

The IMPACT is getting stronger!

As we move into the second year of AlMaghrib Institute’s public welfare project, 2015 already looks to smash the “impact” of IMPACT’s amazing 2014!

AlMaghrib IMPACT has really taken our AlMaghrib cities by storm, with more and more joining and desperate to earn good deeds through simple warm acts of charity and benefit which bring such happiness and aid to those in our wider communities.

Since our last update in December, here’s a brief snap-shot of what’s been going on. Of course for more details, be sure to follow our dedicated Facebook page for IMPACT but please check out the details and photos below.

PS: a very special shout out to some of our chapters who haven’t been taking photos due to the more sensitive nature of their outreach, such as the cities of Birmingham, Bradford and Manchester with their last six visits to the Elderly Peoples’ Homes in their cities, and also Seattle’s clothes and furniture collection services for Homeless and Refugee Services in the city. Well done!

- First up it’s our Calgary chapter and their clothing drive, something essential in this freezing weather!

- And if Calgary didn’t have enough on its plate, it seems they had time to organise a local blood bank drive as well!

- Our Sweden chapter put on a beautiful little food bank as part of an Interfaith effort with local members of the Christian, Sikh and Jewish faith:

911.Events on 3. Done baking 921.Collab with Unga dharmis & Muslim Aid 915.

- Qabeelat Shams, our London team, put on what seems an absolutely delicious open-air food kitchen over the winter period at Lincoln’s Inn, to what were rave reviews of those who stopped by for a great meal:

- Our Seattle chapter did a great job with their opening soup kitchen, the first of hopefully many more to come:

- And last but certainly not least for this month’s round-up, it was great to see Minnesota back to the top again from the US cities. Their quality has been awesome in this last year, so here’s January’s food drive with a HUGE response:

- And then here’s Minnesota’s most recent Food Shelf initiative in February. Fabulous work ma sha Allah, may Allah reward every single soul who has spent time or money in this great cause to bring benefit to the wider community!
