Good news: We’re still accepting IlmSummit 2011 Applications
July 8-17, 2011
This year, as usual, the main Instructors will be Sh. Waleed Basyouni, Sh. Yaser Birjas, and myself (Yasir Qadhi). Additionally, we have a surprise Instructor as well. We are still finalizing our tajweed Instructor and we are hopeful that we can get our usual Instructor this year as well. IlmSummit tuition this year is $1650 USD.
Sh. Waleed will be offering a unique and fascinating course that will deal simultaneously with the sciences of hadith, rijaal and (of course!) aqeedah. He will explain selections from the Sunan of Ibn Majah.
Sh. Yaser Birjas will be teaching a cutting-edge course on modern fiqh issues; it will deal with miscellaneous topics in medicine, economics and current affairs. The purpose will be to demonstrate how issues that classical and medieval scholars could not have discussed have been dealt with by our modern scholars.
I will be teaching a class on modern Muslim movements. In light of the current events taking place around the world, I believe it is necessary to take a critical and neutral look at a number of key figures and Islamist political movements of the modern era.
As for our surprise guest, well, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise if I announced who he is or what he’s teaching, would it?! But stay tuned to your screens, you’ll be hearing the announcement soon enough!
The registration process will be the same as last year. Students will not be chosen on a first-come first-accepted basis, but rather on the basis of merit. The number of AlMaghrib courses taken, the amount of Quran memorized, and the level of community activism will all be taken into account.
Submit your application right here.
IlmSummit will be held at Crowne Plaza Houston North Greenspoint, 425 N. Sam Houston Parkway East, Houston, TX 77060
If you have any questions, you can of course check out the AlMaghrib forums and, if they’re not answered there, post your questions online so that everyone can benefit from it.
As usual, all of us Instructors are really hyped up about IlmSummit, and you KNOW a course is going to be good if the teachers are all enthused about it.
I look forward to raising the bar for IlmSummit even higher this year, and to make this year’s experience better than ever! May Allah allow us to accomplish that, Ameen!
Your brother in Islam,
Dean of Academic Affairs
