AlMaghrib News

Thank you all for making an IMPACT!

We would like to congratulate all of our volunteers across the AlMaghrib World for genuinely showing the needy in their communities how much we care for our collective welfare. The feedback was amazing, we really did make an IMPACT together!

CTV Windsor had this to report:

There was so much great work done across the cities, it’s difficult to collate it all here whether it was the awesome team in Calgary, or the guys in Dublin, Ireland with an excellent log of their work, then the team in Charlotte (with an internal men and women competition!), or the team in California. Toronto were competing with the other Canadian cities for who could make the biggest impact, Melbourne showed their experience, and what about Minnesota? Amazing feedback in Qabeelat Madinatayn – but they had serious competition from London, and then their neighbours in Bristol and then thousands of miles away in Kuala Lumpur as usual! There’s just so much to report back but see the full array of videos and photos on the AlMaghrib Impact Facebook Page.

Here is a small selection of photos to boost your Iman levels, alhamdulillah!

Statement concerning Canadian Senate “Countering the Terrorist Threat in Canada: An Interim Report”

As a Canadian institution pro-actively working with North American national security officials since 2008 to counter extremism, promote pluralistic values and empower women, AlMaghrib Institute congratulates the Senate’s Standing Committee on National Security and Defense for its contribution to safeguarding the Canadian people’s safety and values.

Unfortunately as part of its Interim Report on Countering the Terrorist Threat in Canada, the committee published some inaccurate information on AlMaghrib Institute. The Senate Committee never contacted AlMaghrib Institute to verify the validity of the false accusations made by a committee witness quoted in the report, nor invited AlMaghrib Institute to directly offer testimony before the committee on its extensive experience advancing Canadian values and working with Canadian national security agencies to counter extremism threats to the homeland.

Global Impact Day!

AlMaghrib Institute presents: GLOBAL IMPACT DAY
Muslims reaching out to the homeless in Ramadan

Global Impact Day is new global initiative by AlMaghrib students aimed at raising awareness and relief for the homeless in their cities.

On the 4th of July 2015 AlMaghrib Impact will be hosting events and initiatives in over 20 cities worldwide providing meals and relief to the homeless whilst we fast during our holy month of Ramadan. For as the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stated:

“The best of people are those that bring most benefit to the rest of mankind”

AlMaghrib Impact has been providing support to and spearheading many grass-roots initiatives such as adopting highways, holding mass clean-ups, assisting refugees, and probably most universally, helping the homeless. In Ramadan we thank God for all that we have been given and seek to give of that which we have been blessed with, with our greater community, and those in most dire need within our community: the homeless and needy.

About AlMaghrib Impact

[Impact is an AlMaghrib grassroots initiative, catapulted forward by teams of students from all over the world. Our aim is to make a difference. Now in over 20 cities worldwide, feeding the homeless, visiting the elderly, providing care packs to the needy, cleaning up highways and mosques, and more. Congratulations to Qabeelat Ruhma! Liwaa 2015 Champions!

Hey who needs the Superbowl anyway?

Ma sha Allah, congratulations to the amazing team in Seattle who have smashed all expectations and really been an incredible story in the AlMaghrib world. We are all so super proud of Qabeelat Ruhma for winning the Liwaa 2015 and we can only pray that they continue to go from strength to strength, bringing light and khayr to many more people in sha Allah!

Qabeelat Ruhma was founded in February 2005, making it one of AlMaghrib Institute’s earliest cities. But Seattle wasn’t ready, the Qabeelat struggled, and almost exactly a year later, we had to shut down Qabeelat Ruhma.

6 years later, we were told that Seattle was ready, more than ready.. and that Qabeelat Ruhma would rise again. And they did. BIG time!

In the past year, Qabeelat Ruhma and Seattle have rocked the AlMaghrib world. Hosting sold out classes, launching excellent initiatives and bringing the excitement of IlmFest to its city. With an average student grade of 73% and an astounding feat: averaging 50% exam attendance, the best in the AlMaghrib world.

Watch Shaykh Yasir Qadhi and Shaykh AbdulBary Yahya announce the occasion live in an awesome way…

And the Liwaa 2015 Runners Up are…

2nd Runners Up: Qabeelat TAYYBAH, New York City!

This year Qabeelat Tayybah hosted 5 seminars averaging 230 students in each which is an amazing feat that the team there should be proud of! Not only that but they had an average 44% exam attendance with an average score of 75% making them one of our best academically performing Qabeelahs. This is totally in line with their renowned academics team, and yes even instructors use their students notes prepared by the Qabeelah ma sha Allah!

Mubarak, Qabeelat Tayybah on an excellent year!

Which then leads to…

1st Runners Up: Qabeelat Madinatayn, Minneapolis, MN!

Qabeelat Madinatayn splashed onto the AlMaghrib world only very recently, and even though they are much smaller than many of our major cities they quickly put everyone on notice that they mean business winning the Liwaa in their first year!

This year they were a close second, with a class average of 200 students, an exam turnout of 46.8% and the HIGHEST exam average in the AlMaghrib world at 79.50% (!), Minneapolis is indeed the city of students of knowledge. But not just that, they are also the city of action because their IMPACT work has been making headlines all over the world!

Mubarak to Qabeelat Madinatayn on an outstanding year!

So, who are the winners?!

Voting for the Liwaa Cup 2015 has started…

So first of all, you’re like “What is the Liwaa?”

Well you should all know this by now! The Liwaa is given yearly to the single most outstanding Qabeelah in the AlMaghrib universe. That’s basically the best chapter of volunteers that bring you awesome AlMaghrib experiences every few months in your city.

The Liwaa represents excellence in three key categories:

1) Attendance
2) Exam attendance
3) Exam scores

Previous winners of the Liwaa have been: Houston, DC, Toronto (twice), Minneapolis, New Jersey, London, New York and Malaysia (twice).

Just so that you don’t think this is a big city affair, you should know that as long as any Qabeelah averages over 150 students in their seminars over a year, they are in the running for the Liwaa. After that it is all about EXAMS. What is the percentage of students over the course of the year that take the class and exams and what their average grades were.

Will Malaysia win for the third straight year?
Will one of the old winners retake the Liwa?
Will a new city write its name amongst the elite?

This is going to be a close one…
