Here’s a real bumper edition, perhaps the longest ever Newsletter that we’ve released, and that’s not a bad thing either!
After the wonderful news of Denmark joining the AlMaghrib Family, here’s a great follow up: our first tour, and led by the awesome Sh AbdulBary Yahya!
It all kicks off on Monday 4th May 2015 and continues all week across a number of cities, with even the Swedish side getting a taste in Malmo! Get all your details HERE and don’t miss out when the bus comes round!
Hey who needs the Superbowl anyway?
Ma sha Allah, congratulations to the amazing team in Seattle who have smashed all expectations and really been an incredible story in the AlMaghrib world. We are all so super proud of Qabeelat Ruhma for winning the Liwaa 2015 and we can only pray that they continue to go from strength to strength, bringing light and khayr to many more people in sha Allah!
Qabeelat Ruhma was founded in February 2005, making it one of AlMaghrib Institute’s earliest cities. But Seattle wasn’t ready, the Qabeelat struggled, and almost exactly a year later, we had to shut down Qabeelat Ruhma.
6 years later, we were told that Seattle was ready, more than ready.. and that Qabeelat Ruhma would rise again. And they did. BIG time!
In the past year, Qabeelat Ruhma and Seattle have rocked the AlMaghrib world. Hosting sold out classes, launching excellent initiatives and bringing the excitement of IlmFest to its city. With an average student grade of 73% and an astounding feat: averaging 50% exam attendance, the best in the AlMaghrib world.
2nd Runners Up: Qabeelat TAYYBAH, New York City!
This year Qabeelat Tayybah hosted 5 seminars averaging 230 students in each which is an amazing feat that the team there should be proud of! Not only that but they had an average 44% exam attendance with an average score of 75% making them one of our best academically performing Qabeelahs. This is totally in line with their renowned academics team, and yes even instructors use their students notes prepared by the Qabeelah ma sha Allah!
Mubarak, Qabeelat Tayybah on an excellent year!
Which then leads to…
1st Runners Up: Qabeelat Madinatayn, Minneapolis, MN!
Qabeelat Madinatayn splashed onto the AlMaghrib world only very recently, and even though they are much smaller than many of our major cities they quickly put everyone on notice that they mean business winning the Liwaa in their first year!
This year they were a close second, with a class average of 200 students, an exam turnout of 46.8% and the HIGHEST exam average in the AlMaghrib world at 79.50% (!), Minneapolis is indeed the city of students of knowledge. But not just that, they are also the city of action because their IMPACT work has been making headlines all over the world!
Mubarak to Qabeelat Madinatayn on an outstanding year!
So, who are the winners?!
So first of all, you’re like “What is the Liwaa?”
Well you should all know this by now! The Liwaa is given yearly to the single most outstanding Qabeelah in the AlMaghrib universe. That’s basically the best chapter of volunteers that bring you awesome AlMaghrib experiences every few months in your city.
The Liwaa represents excellence in three key categories:
2) Exam attendance
3) Exam scores
Previous winners of the Liwaa have been: Houston, DC, Toronto (twice), Minneapolis, New Jersey, London, New York and Malaysia (twice).
Just so that you don’t think this is a big city affair, you should know that as long as any Qabeelah averages over 150 students in their seminars over a year, they are in the running for the Liwaa. After that it is all about EXAMS. What is the percentage of students over the course of the year that take the class and exams and what their average grades were.
Will Malaysia win for the third straight year?
Will one of the old winners retake the Liwa?
Will a new city write its name amongst the elite?
This is going to be a close one…
When you see what happened last month in March, and then what’s around the comer, you’ll think this edition of the Newsletter is the biggest and busiest ever! We’d list it all for you but this page isn’t big enough…
Each year, we choose our best and brightest students – those that have taken the requisite number of courses and achieved the highest percentile grades, and they get placed on what is called “The Dean’s List”.
On behalf of AlMaghrib Institute, for Academic Year 2014, after much checking and assessment, I would like to (finally at last!) congratulate every one of those who made it to the Dean’s List as illustrated below!
Mabruk on being exemplary students of our Institutes! May you continue to achieve greater and higher goals throughout your life, and may you continue to strive in implementing this knowledge in your actions and worship as well.
Dr. Yasir Qadhi
Dean of Academic Affairs
It would be ridiculous – in fact, very dangerous – to ignore the threat to our Muslim and non-Muslim communities from a narrative which uses Islam in a most perverse and deviant way.
It is the plague of Extremism. And Muslims themselves need to stand up and be counted in this battle against that which contradicts the very basic principles of our religion.
Join Sh Waleed Basyouni and Sh Navaid Aziz on Sunday 5th April 2015 for this unique event which aims to shed light on the truth behind the rhetoric, and ensure that we don’t remain deceived any longer.
